The Tiguan is a compact SUV by the German manufacturer which is currently available in the international market and is performing quite well. India will receive the new generation Tiguan which made its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The SUV is now built on a modular transverse matrix (MBQ) platform which makes it 50kg lighter as compared to the current out-going model. The new Tiguan is roomier and has larger luggage compartment space as compared to its predecessor.
On the exteriors, the new Tiguan has been sculpted with sharp lines giving the SUV a very dominant character. The headlight assemblies are equipped with LED projector units that are optional but come as standard in the top variant. The rear also receives the LED units for the tail lamp assemblies and is a standard fitment.
The cockpit of the new Tiguan houses a sporty centre console with climate control switches below it which are angled towards the driver for improved ergonomics. Even the infotainment display, is located high above the centre console and is again tilts towards the driver. The new VW Tiguan will be offered in both petrol and diesel variants with different power outputs. The India-bound variant will be a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 190PS of power, borrowed from the Passat. The standard variant of the Tiguan transmits power only to the rear axle, but expect an option for all-wheel drive to also be provided when launched.
The new Tiguan will be showcased by Volkswagen at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The compact SUV will be assembled locally at Skoda’s manufacturing plant in Aurangabad which in-turn will allow VW to launch the Tiguan at a lesser price. Expect the new Volkswagen Tiguan to be launched in India by late 2016.
