Expert's Opinion on Speed 400 (2023-2025)
Overview

Triumph Enough?
- Triumph Speed 400 was launched in India in July 2023.The roadster is made in collaboration with Bajaj Auto. The bike made it to the headlines for its design, performance and quality. But, made by Bajaj in Chakan, is it Triumph enough?
Design

Defying the laws of attraction
- Gets neo-retro roadster styling inspired by the Speed Twin
- Higher quality components, even the switchgear feels premium
- Gets an analogue tachometer along with a small digital speedometer
- The speedometer feels a bit cramped and a fully digital instrument cluster would have made more sense.
Performance & Mileage

All show, no go?
- The Speed 400’s 398cc, liquid-cooled engine makes 40PS that comes in handy when riding spiritedly.
- The engine has enough torque and can pull from as low as 50kmph in the sixth gear all the way till triple-digit speeds.
- The bike can cruise on the highway all-day long at 110-120kmph without breaking a sweat.
- The clutch is light and responsive with no juddering when rolling on and off the throttle.
- The bike is always ready to lunge forward at the slightest provocation.
- There is a fair amount of vibration that starts to kick in above 115kmph mark.
- The gearbox has some clunkiness to it.
Handling

Just a runner or an agile athlete?
- The Triumph Speed 400 tips into corners quite nicely.
- The suspension setup is plush which can handle corners as well as bad roads.
- The bike is agile but not as sharp as some of the other 400cc bikes
- The brakes lack initial bite and could have been more progressive.
Ride Quality

Does it glide?
- The suspension absorbs all the undulations with ease and it feels absolutely comfortable and doesn't throw you off.
- The suspension will feel a bit bouncy at the rear while riding hard but never feels out of control.
Comfort & Storage

Accommodating while being spirited
- The seat is sufficiently padded and is comfortable in the city and on longer rides too.
- The bike accommodates the rider well and there is enough room to move around while riding.
- The handlebars are set ideally and with slightly rear set footpegs, the bike strikes a perfect balance between being sporty yet comfortable at the same time.
- The pillion seat, though it is comfortable, could have had some more width to better accommodate the pillion.
Features

Disappointing
- The Speed 400 gets switchable traction control and ABS as standard.
- Also gets an USB charging port for convenience.
- Misses out on smartphone connectivity.
Verdict

Is the Triumph Speed 400 worth your money?
- If you need a versatile, do-it-all bike that can handle your commutes as well as weekend trips with ease, the Speed 400 is perfect for you.
- This is the bike that could be your one-bike garage.
- If you are looking for frantic performance from a 400cc, it will disappoint you.
- It has a linear power delivery that feels calm and relaxed
Key Things to Know about Speed 400 (2023-2025)
