The government’s countermeasures to stop COVID-19 spreading like wildfire means that whatever little fuel you have left in your two-wheeler, has to last you until May 3. While you are not supposed to step out of your house (and please for your and your family’s safety alone don’t), you might need to get groceries or medical essentials from shops around your colony. Hence, you would be glad if you had bought one of these five two-wheelers in the past year.
For this list, we have selected only the two-wheelers that were tested in 2019, not 2020. That means, when we did the efficiency tests, some of these models were their BS4 versions. We expect the mileage figures to change a bit, hopefully for the better. Nevertheless, the Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear remains the most fuel efficient two-wheeler that we have tested ever. It was significantly better than our previous best, the TVS Radeon. The Honda Activa 125 BS6 was the first BS6 two-wheeler launched in India and when we tested the trusty scooter, its fuel efficiency figures of the new 124cc motor are better than the 124.7cc BS4 mill. There is another Bajaj in this list as it comes in the form of the smallest Pulsar ever made – the Pulsar 125. It packs a punchy 125cc motor in a design that is all too familiar with the Pulsar family. Yamaha’s FZ series of bikes have become econo-centric since its second-generation. We tested the BS4 version of the third-gen bike. As it turns out, the FZ-S Fi V3 managed to beat every single one of its 150cc commuter rivals, except one: the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. And the last bike on our list also happens to be another naked Yamaha motorcycle and it is the racy MT-15. The naked version of India’s favourite entry-level supersport, the R15, the MT-15 is a pleasure to zip around in the city, returning decent fuel efficiency along the way.
