  • Both motorcycles expected to launch before April 1, 2020.
  • Both 160cc BS6 Apache RTRs to be fuel injected.
  • More premium RTR 160 4V gets an LED headlamp, could get Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Expect a price hike of Rs 8,000 for the Apache RTR 160 and Rs 3,000 for the RTR 160 4V.

TVS Apache test bikes, RTR 160 and RTR 160 4V, have been spotted near the ARAI testing facility in Pune. They are likely to be undergoing tests for BS6 compliance. Like other manufacturers, TVS is also gearing up to launch its BS6 motorcycles and scooters before the April 2020 BS6 deadline.

To comply with the BS6 norms, the Apache RTR 160 will get a fuel-injected motor. Its 159.7cc air-cooled mill currently delivers 15.1PS and 13Nm of torque. Expect the new fuel-injected motor to deliver around the same performance and better fuel efficiency.

The more modern Apache RTR 160 4V already has carburetted and fuel-injected variants. For BS6 compliance, we expect TVS to discontinue the carburetted variant and make its fuel-injected variant BS6 compliant. The BS4 compliant fuel-injected Apache RTR 160 currently delivers 16.8PS and 14.8Nm of torque. We expect the new BS6 motor to have a slight drop in power but offer better fuel efficiency.

Along with the BS6 update expect the new Apache RTR motorcycles to also get LED headlamps. The Apache RTR 160 continues to use a semi-digital instrument console. We expect the premium Apache RTR 160 4V’s full-digital instrument console to get Bluetooth connectivity from the larger Apache RTR 200 4V

Both bikes will receive a price hike due to the BS6 transition. We expect the Apache RTR 160 to cost around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 more than the current BS4 model, which is priced at Rs 90,652 (ex-showroom Delhi). The major part of the price hike can be attributed to the transition from carburettor to fuel injection. Since the Apache RTR 160 4V already has fuel injection we expect it to get a price hike of around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. It would cover the cost of BS6 conversion and the addition of features like an LED headlamp.
