VW targets 70 percent of car sales in Europe to come from EVs by 2030.
Its current electric lineup consists of the ID.3 and ID.4 from the I.D family.
Upcoming Volkswagen EVs include the ID.4 GTX, ID.5, ID.6 X / CROZZ, and an entry-level hatchback.
After sister brand Audi recently announced it will no longer make standard internal combustion engined (ICE) models by 2026, Volkswagen has now stated that it will also say goodbye to ICE models in Europe by 2035.
VW Sales Director Klaus Zellmer stated in the report, “We have set very clear goals and milestones. We will make our entire fleet CO2 neutral by 2050 at the latest. In Europe, we will exit the combustion engine vehicle business between 2033 and 2035, and a little later in the USA and China. In South America and Africa, due to the lack of political and infrastructural framework conditions, it will take a good bit longer.”

We already know that Volkswagen targets 70 percent of its European car sales to come from EVs in 2030. VW is also looking at strategies to boost its EV sales with the likes of subscription plans. They expect this format of buying will account for 20 percent of their sales by 2030.

Volkswagen’s current EV lineup is concentrated in the ID. family, which comprises the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 SUV. Upcoming EVs include the ID.4 GTX, ID.5, ID.6 X / CROZZ, and an entry-level hatchback. The VW Group plans to have 27 models based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) platform offered across the group by 2022. There’s also a couple of new platforms, Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), that are slated to arrive by the middle of this decade.

With all this push for electric conversion in Europe, what does this mean for VW here in our country? Well, it's too early to comment, and will likely take a very long time for any effect to materialise. We currently await the facelifted 5-seater Tiguan that’s coming soon, with the Taigun expected to launch next month. We also expect the successor to the Vento by early 2022, followed by a few EVs from the ID. range in the future.
