While it will be Hyundai’s smallest SUV, the cabin shots suggest it won’t compromise on premium quality

  • Interior shots reveal white leather seats with black accents, and a centre armrest up front.

  • Features could include connected car tech, semi-digital driver’s display, touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless phone charger.

  • Will get an upright and tall stance, with a mix of retro and modern design bits outside.

  • Could get three engines and two transmission options.

  • Could reach Indian shores by 2022.

Information on Hyundai’s upcoming India-bound micro-SUV (could be called Casper) continues to surface, as the latest spy shots reveal a first glimpse of the cabin. It is expected to make its debut sometime later this year as the brand’s smallest, and latest entry-level SUV.

While the latest spy image has the dashboard completely disguised, it does reveal the materials and upholstery that will be present in the Casper. By the looks of it, it’ll be a premium setup with white leather seats complemented by black accents. Aside from that, there is a centre armrest up front with what seems like a cubby hole in the centre console down below.

Since the fabrics look premium, we can expect the Casper to come loaded with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push button start. Safety kit could include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with camera.

Previous spy shots of the exterior indicate an upright and tall stance, giving it an SUV-esque demeanor. The images also revealed a split-headlamp setup with retro-looking circular main beam units, 17-inch alloy wheels, and LED tail lamps with triangular elements.

Under the hood, it could get the Grand i10 Nios’ 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, a 75PS 1.2-litre diesel, and a 100PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. All three could be paired with a 5-speed manual, as the 5-speed AMT is  limited to the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines.

We expect the Hyundai Casper around 2022 with prices under Rs 6 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100Nxt, and the upcoming Tata HBX.
