All manufacturers have a vision of the future. While some go all out with the design, making cars that look like alien lifeforms, others have taken a more retro approach to get back to the basics. Suzuki has decided to take a different approach altogether with the e-SURVIVOR. In its list of exhibits for the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, the Japanese carmaker has revealed an image of what they like to call "a future compact SUV toward the next 100 years." Let me simplify it for you: this is the electric concept of the Suzuki Jimmy SUV. Yes, the SUV we want, but our neighbours get.

When it comes to the design bit, it appears to be a love child of the Suzuki Jimmy and the X-90 on Cybertron. The design is outlandish, with massive open wheel arches, off-road wheels and huge ground clearance. Another thing which grabs attention off the bat is the T-top roof, making it look funky and straight out of a 90's movie. Because this is an electric, the wheels, stereotypically, have been given blue lighting and the headlamps and grilles come with LED elements as well. It would be very interesting to see a production version close to this concept, but if you are reading this article, you might not live that long.

The best part for us in the Suzuki e-SURVIVOR has to be the fact that it is a conventional ladder frame with a steering wheel and paddles, meaning Suzuki is trusting humans to drive even 100 years from now. There is also an electric four-wheel drive which might debut in Suzuki cars sooner than we expect.
Like the Vision 100 concepts from BMW and Rolls Royce, the Suzuki e-SURVIVOR is also quite overboard. But this is an idea of what electric compact SUVs will look like 100 years from now, and hence can be swallowed. And, like BMW and RR, this too comes close to the eve of Suzuki completing 100 years in 2020. The Suzuki Jimmy is also due for an update and it would be fun to see some touches from this concept getting incorporated into the new generation.
