Future tech could include AI-based applications, 5G, and enhanced over-the-air features

The merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA (Stellantis) continues to make big moves as they’ve joined hands with Apple iPhone assembler Foxconn. Called ‘Mobile Drive’, this 50/50 joint venture could bring in a lot of interesting car technologies to future Stellantis models.

Some of the areas that Mobile Drive will work on include infotainment systems,  cloud service platform, artificial intelligence-based applications, 5G communication, connected car tech, over-the-air services, and digital cockpits.

There’s no timeline as to when this technology from this new joint venture will make it to future models, but we think it might take a year or two. Meanwhile, the Stellantis merger is set to take effect for India and the Asia Pacific region, as Stellantis has announced some key leadership appointments.

Back home, the Stellantis merger could see Jeep DNA in future Groupe PSA cars or Citroen design bits in future FCA cars, since these two companies will be sharing platforms and powertrains. For now though, Jeep India is prepping a new 7-seater SUV for 2022 and the return of the Grand Cherokee moniker via a next-gen localised model. Citroen on the other hand could introduce a made-for-India sub-4 metre SUV later this year.
