The merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA is finally starting to take effect in the country

  • The merger between FCA and PSA was finalised back in January this year.

  • Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Citroen India, Roland Bouchara appointed as CEO & Managing Director for Stellantis in India.

  • President and Managing Director of FCA India, Dr. Partha Datta, will oversee Engineering, Design, Research & Development (R&D) operations across India and the Asia Pacific region.

  • We could see Jeep DNA in future Citroen models, or Citroen styling in future Jeep models.

2021 had kicked off with the long-awaited completion of the merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA, to create Stellantis. Basically, FCA and PSA will share their platforms and powertrains for cost-effectiveness. And now, this merger is finally set to take effect for India and the Asia Pacific region, as Stellantis has announced some key leadership appointments.

Roland Bouchara, who was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Citroen India, has been appointed as CEO & Managing Director for Stellantis in India. Dr. Partha Datta, President and Managing Director of FCA India will now head the Engineering, Design, Research & Development (R&D) operations across the India & Asia Pacific Region.

What does this merger mean for Jeep (FCA) and Citroen (Groupe PSA) in India? Well since these two companies will be sharing platforms and powertrains, we could have some Jeep DNA in future Groupe PSA cars or chic Citroen design bits in future FCA cars.

Currently, Jeep India is preparing to introduce a new 7-seater SUV for 2022 that could be called the ‘Commander’ and the return of the Grand Cherokee moniker via a next-gen localised model.  As for Citroen, it has recently kicked off its India innings with the C5 Aircross, and is set to introduce a made-for-India sub-4 metre SUV later this year.
