Aimed at supporting sustainable transport solutions, and thereby a better quality of life for millions of people, the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award returns in 2013 for its third edition. This includes initiatives both in city transport and long-distance travel.
Volvo Buses in India has already begun calling for entries this year. The contest carries prize money of Rs 10 lakh, which includes a first prize of Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for the runners-up. Registrations for the award have started and the deadline for this is August 31, 2013.
Commenting on the Volvo Sustainability Award in 2013, Akash Passey, Senior Vice President – Business Region International, Volvo Bus Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Volvo Buses in India, said, “Entries to the earlier editions of the award showcased the impressive work being done by various groups across the country. We eagerly look forward to see this motivation spread wider with the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2013.”
The previous editions attracted a wide range of subjects ranging from efforts to streamline bus services on key traffic corridors to urban planning that addressed issues like city road planning to promoting commuter rail as an alternative for people to commute. The 2012 awards were bagged by Embarq India and Indian Urban Space Foundation, with runners up as Praja.
