Mercedes-Benz India has announced that the company will hike prices across its model line-up (with the exception of the recently launched GL-Class SUV) in the range of 2.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent depending in the model. The German luxury car maker states that the price hike has been the result of the depreciation of the rupee, higher import duties and rising input costs.
The price hike will bump up prices of the A-Class luxury hatchback by 4 per cent thereby pegging the price of the A 180 CDI at Rs 22.05 lakh. The B-Class too will bear a hike of 4 per cent resulting in the price of the B 180 CDI being marked at Rs 23.50 lakh. After the price hike of 2.5 per cent the C-Class the C 200 CGI will sport a price tag of Rs 32.25 lakh. The refreshed E-Class that was launched in June 2013 bears a price hike of 3.5 percent, as a result the E 200 CGI will have a asking price of Rs 42.16 lakh. The ML-Class SUV will bear a hike of 4 per cent and the ML 250 CDI will be priced at Rs 50.98 lakh. All prices are indicative of ex-showroom Mumbai.
“The rising input costs along with higher import duties have been creating significant pressure on our bottomlines for quite some time now. The constant weakening of the currency and the increase in other relevant taxes further impacted the business, adversely. We have been absorbing a significant portion of these impacts till now, but to run a sustained and profitable business in the long run, revising the prices upwards was inevitable. However, despite the price hike, the attractive financial solutions from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services like ‘Flexinomics’, ‘STAR Agility’ and ‘STAR Supersonic’ loan approvals etc. are all tailor made for our customers. These solutions will provide benchmarking value proposition enabling a hassle free purchase, while our after-sales programmes like Star Care, Star Ease and Road Side Assistance, will enhance the customer’s overall ownership experience,” said Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
