India-bound Volkswagen T-Cross Now Available With Diesel Engine highlights

The 1.6-litre TDI produces 95PS and 250Nm.
It is Euro 6-compliant which is even more stringent than the upcoming BS6 emission norms in India.
Indian-spec SUV expected to come with the 1.6-litre TDI motor.
Volkswagen will axe the 1.5-litre TDI due to upcoming BS6-emission norms.

Volkswagen’s latest compact SUV, the T-Cross, is now available with a 1.6-litre diesel engine in international markets. Introduced in the end of 2018, the T-Cross was previously available with an 1.0-litre TSI petrol motor in two states of tune. The new 1.6-litre TDI motor in the T-Cross churns out 95PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque and can be picked up with either a manual or DSG gearbox option. While power figures are at par with the lower spec 1.0-litre TSI, it makes the most amount of torque here. The 1.6-litre TDI is also Euro 6-compliant which is even more stringent than the upcoming BS6 emission norms in India. The carmaker also claims the T-Cross TDI MT can do 0-100kmph in 11.9 seconds and the DSG-equipped T-Cross can dispatch that figure in 12.5 seconds. The TDI motor is also the most frugal of the lot.

The UK-spec T-Cross ia available in a total of three variants: SE, SEL and R-Line. Prices for the diesel T-Cross start from £21,240 (Rs 18.74 lakh) for the base SE variant.

The German carmaker will eventually bring the T-Cross to our market by the end of 2020. While the T-Cross was expected to be offered as a petrol-only offering here, the introduction of a cleaner diesel engine in international markets might prompt the manufacturer to launch the diesel engine in India as well. It must be mentioned that the carmaker will soon axe the 1.5-litre TDI present on the Polo, Ameo and Vento due to the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

When the T-Cross hits our roads, it’s likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). At this price range, it will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the Nissan Kicks.

RAVSAHEB | 7 years ago Volkswagen service cost is very high and spare rates such as Injectors very costly. Whenever we visit service they say Injectors are faulty due to impure diesel. When Volkswagen can produce car for India it should also produce according to the fuel standard also and not per German diesel quality. We cannot buy a car in India and go buy diesel from Germany. Yes I agree with other for VW service center need to establish more and more location across the Indian.As of my personal view.
