Hyundai i20 cross hatchback spied undisguised, to be named 'i20 Active'

The cross hatchback is possibly the hottest growing segment in India. With manufacturers like Volkswagen, Fiat and Toyota already in the fray, the two big players, Hyundai and Maruti are about to enter the market with their offerings. Hyundai will be the first with their newly christened Hyundai i20 Active, a cross hatchback version of their incredibly successful Elite i20 hatchback.

As seen from the pictures, the Hyundai i20 Active will feature some upgrades as compared to the normal Elite i20. The new car will get a set of plastic claddings painted in a matte silver colour on the front and rear bumper combined with a plastic side skirt that helps give the car a raised look. The new Hyundai i20 Active will also get projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights along with a new circular rear fog light setup. The i20 Active will also get a plastic accent piece on the fuel filler cap along with a set of roof rails.

Judging from the pictures, we also expect the Hyundai i20 Active to get a slightly raised suspension setup to improve its ground clearance by a substantial height. The new chunkier alloy wheels will also add to the overall look of the car giving it a more outdoorsy stance. Expect the Hyundai i20 Active to come with both petrol and diesel engines and be priced about Rs 50,000 more than its equivalent hatchback variant.
