Honda’s ever growing portfolio is about to get even bigger. At the 2016 Auto Expo, Honda Car India Limited unveiled two cars that it plans to bring to India before the year is out. The big one amongst which is the BR-V.
Honda first showcased the BR-V at the Tokyo Motorshow last year and stated that India is one of the primary market for this seven seater crossover. Come Auto Expo 2016 and we took a much closer look at the forthcoming BR-V, not trying to be biased but the car showed quite a lot of promise. The car is based on the same platform as the Brio, Amaze and the Mobilio. It will most likely be offered with both petrol and diesel engines.
The petrol unit will be Honda’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC four pot engine that is also employed in the Honda City and the Mobilio whereas the diesel unit will be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor. The petrol engine will likely make 119PS, the diesel motor is likely to retain its power figure of 100PS. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with the inevitable CVT on the petrol variants a diesel BR-V with an automatic gearbox though is highly unlikely. The BR-V will be the first 7-seater crossover in its segment and will go up against the like of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Renault Duster. Prices are expected to be between Rs 8.0lakh to 14.0lakh and car is expected to be launched in May.
The Honda Accord had got itself an almost cult status in India. But the last generation of Accord failed to click with the customers and was eventually taken off the assembly line in early 2014. But after almost two years, it made its re-appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo. Today Honda confirmed that it will be launching the unveiled car around the festive season which is around Diwali, more specifically, Dhan Teras. The new generation Accord will most likely be powered by a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine which will be coupled to a hybrid system. Yes, the new Accord will be sold as a hybrid only. Just for the record, there is no diesel option in the pipeline, ever. It will most likely to come with a CVT gearbox only but a manual version cannot be ruled out either. When launched it will directly compete with the Toyota Camry.
