The new Fiat Tipo sedan that is already on sale in some parts of Europe has now been joined by its hatchback and estate siblings, unveiled yesterday at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. To be manufactured at made at Fiat’s Tofas plant in Turkey, the Tipo hatchback will replace the Bravo in the Italian carmaker’s lineup while the hatchback will replace the Croma.
Visually, the Tipo hatchback and estate bears the same front end as their sedan sibling, differentiated only by a slightly redesigned bumper and LED daytime-running lights in the headlamps. The Tipo hatch ditches the saloon’s boot for a fifth door with a wraparound window and boomerang-shaped lights, while the estate features an elongated roof, third window, increased boot volume, same taillights as the hatch, and outdoorsy roof rails.
The interiors are pretty similar to the Tipo sedan too. Fiat claims that the hatch has the ability to accommodate three six-footers across the rear bench thanks to “class-leading” legroom. There’s also a 420-litre boot in the hatch. The Estate increases that to 520 litres, and can carry loads of up to 1.8m with the 60:40 split-fold seats flipped down. It also gets luggage hooks and a removable boot floor.
Three spec levels will be available at launch. Standard features include electric mirrors, air conditioning, six airbags, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and remote central locking, among others. Fiat will detail the full equipment range in the coming months, just before the new versions come to market.
Powering the Fiat Tipo hatchback and estate are two diesel motors (1.3 and 1.6-litre units with 95PS and 200Nm, 120PS and 320Nm respectively) and three petrol units: a 95PS 1.4-litre motor with 125Nm and a 1.6-litre 110PS engine with 203Nm. A turbocharged 1.4-litre engine with 120PS and 206Nm tops the petrol engine range.
Transmission options for the Tipo hatchback and estate include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic (1.6 petrol only), and a 6-speed dual clutch (1.6 diesel only).
Fiat haven’t confirmed pricing for the new Tipo yet.
