Audi A4 35 TDI Diesel Launched At Rs 40.20 Lakh

Audi has finally added a diesel engine to its A4 lineup. The A4 35 TDI has been launched at Rs 40.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will go up against the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Volvo S60. 

The biggest change, needless to mention is the 2.0-litre diesel engine. It gets 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque on tap, just like its elder sibling - the Audi A6. Power is harnessed by Audi's 7-speed S-Tronic transmission, that channels it to the front wheels. There's no 'Quattro' all-wheel drive tech on offer, and Audi has held back from launching the bigger 3.0-litre V6 diesel (that was on display at the 2016 Auto Expo) as well. For the number crunchers, the diesel Audi will clock 100kmph in 7.7 seconds, before maxing out at 237kmph. Audi also claims it will do 18.25kmpl if you keep the right foot in check. Pretty neat! 

The interiors remain identical as well, that showcases the new Audi interior design philosophy that debuted with the Audi Q7. There's a plethora of tech on offer that includes Audi's party piece - the 12.3-inch 'Virtual Cockpit' that replaces traditional dials with a high-res LCD screen. Other goodies include an iPad-like screen for the infotainment (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) paired with a 10-speaker audio system, navigation, wireless charging and a sunroof.  

On paper, the diesel A4 does seem like a tempting proposition. The 1.4-litre turbo petrol seemed a tad underwhelming (although it is super fuel-efficient) to drive. Will the diesel make up for that? Well, we will put it through its paces soon. Stay tuned for an in-depth road-test review.
