The wraps are off the all-new i4, BMW’s first all-electric four-door coupe. Based on the 4 Series’s platform, the i4 will take on the likes of Tesla’s Model 3. Sure, petrol heads might miss out on the rumble of a V8, but the i4 was earlier teased with a lively rear-end to prove that it still has that BMW magic.
The i4 will be offered in multiple variants with different powertrain configurations. While BMW is yet to reveal the variant-wise data, we know that it has the chops to develop up to 530PS. These figures put it in the same league as that of BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8! The i4 can also go from nought to 100kmph in 4 seconds.
As far as range is concerned, the i4 can do up to 590km on a single charge, as per the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle. Its battery pack will also support fast charging. The i4 comes with a host of updates neath the skin for an improved driving experience. You can read about it in detail here.
In terms of design, the i4 retains the absurdly large grille (that has now been closed off) from the 4 Series. Take that out of the equation, and the i4 is a smart-looking machine. Its sloping roofline and smooth body surface seem glorious. Look a little close, and you’ll notice that the door handles are flush with the rest of the body. The EV-specific alloy wheels and the blue elements also do their bit in lending the i4 its character.
The interior hasn’t been revealed yet, but we reckon it will be similar to that of the 4 Series with a few EV-specific elements. It will also feature BMW’s new i-Drive, about which you can read here.
The all-electric i4 will go on sale later in 2021, with BMW expected to divulge more details with time. So stay tuned.
