Mercedes-Benz is bringing back the sleek-looking CLS in the country. The third generation of the beautiful 4-door coupe will be launched in India on November 16, 2018. The CLS is expected to be priced close to Rs 75 lakh, positioning it between the E-Class and the S-Class.
It carries the latest design language of the Mercedes stable, with a wide front grille carrying the three-pointed star along with a single chrome slat, similar to the one on the new A-Class. Even the headlamps with the sharp arrow-shaped DRLs and the bumper creases are similar to the ones on the 2018 A-Class.
The CLS borrows the underpinnings from the E-Class, which in this third generation makes it bigger than the outgoing model. Inside, there is a mix of features from the E-Class and the S-Class. You get a dual-screen layout for the instrument cluster and infotainment (like in most modern Mercs) and a wooden trim on the dashboard to add a bit of class. The steering wheel with touchpads and the dashboard layout looks a lot like the S-Class and make the CLS feel like a premium sedan.
In India, the CLS will most likely be powered by the 2-litre, inline 4-cylinder diesel engine that is currently present in the facelift C-Class and the E-Class as well. It could carry the ‘CLS 300 d’ badge and produce close to 245PS of power and 500Nm of peak torque, which is a higher tune as compared to the C-Class and the E-Class. In India, the CLS will rival the Audi A7 and the BMW 6 Series GT.
