2017 Renault Fluence (Mégane Sedan) Unveiled

Renault has revealed the next-generation Fluence, also known as Mégane Sedan, globally. However, the manufacturer has ditched the Fluence nameplate and is calling the new cars 'Mégane Grand Coupé'. This has been done in an effort to distance itself from the Fluence nameplate, which hasn’t been very popular among buyers. The French manufacturer is also taking measures to renew its entire product line-up. The current-generation Fluence has been available in India for the past five years and the sales of the same have come down to almost nothing. Thanks to this, the manufacturer is likely to bring the new version of the car to our shores, but only in 2017.

The all-new car features a sleeker and more streamlined design. The hood gets more pronounced character lines and the fascia now looks wider, thanks to Renault’s signature grille. The dual projector headlamp unit gets an L-shaped DRL extension at the outer edges. Moreover, the roofline is more inclined towards a coupe-ish look, rather than a bubble top one. The wheels are, of course, diamond-cut and carry a twin-five–forks layout. Moving to the rear, the tail lamp unit is wider and sleeker, with the lights on either side tending to reach towards each other in the middle.

Just like the Mégane hatchback, the new Mégane Grand Coupé is based on the CMF C/D platform.

Under the hood, the Mégane Grand Coupé could get as much as five engine options, globally. Out of these, two will be petrol-fuelled, whereas the other three would be diesel, with the power ranging from 90PS to 130PS. The car is expected to get as much as three transmission options to choose from – a 5-speed manual, a CVT automatic and a dual-clutch unit for the top-end trims.

Inside the Mégane Grand Coupé is an 8.7-inch infotainment screen, powered by R-Link 2. Then there's a seven-inch instrument cluster, lane departure alert, multi-sense with five driving modes, park assist, and an emergency braking system. It also gets a generous amount of space for the rear passengers, along with a massive boot space of 508 litres. The cabin also gets a wide glass panoramic sunroof that will make the interiors appear more spacious. Since its Indian arrival has not yet been confirmed by the company, we are not sure about the features that are going to be available here. But expect the car to be decently specced, if it is launched in the country.
