Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala returns to the top 10 in qualifying at round seven of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Spa-Francorchamps,with the Indian driver lining up 9th for the feature race. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda took pole position in the end.
Practice for the two Red Bull junior drivers was close with Daruvala 5th and Tsunoda in 2nd covered by only a couple of tenths. After a couple of red flags, the first half of the 30-minute qualifying session saw Daruvala’s initial lap put him in 10th, with Tsunoda taking pole.
While Jehan Daruvala did manage to improve to 9th in the end he was half a second down on Yuki Tsunoda who also improved on his lap time and kept pole position for tomorrow’s feature race.
There is some positive for Jehan Daruvala as the drivers ahead upto 5th all qualified within the same tenth and with the track being overtaking friendly with a strong slipstream effect, there is some hope to make up ground in the 25 lap (60 minutes) feature race. A top 8 finish which could end up in a strong starting position for the sprint race on Sunday due to the top eight finishers from the feature race lining up in a reversed order for the sprint race.
The feature race commences on Saturday at 8:15pm (IST) and will be streamed live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
