Mercedes-AMG has brought the CLE 53 to the Indian shores at a price tag of Rs 1.35 crore. Until today, we’ve had only GT Coupes and a CLE Cabriolet in the German marque’s lineup in India. The CLE 53 opens up its way within with a coupe profile and a promising performance backed by a 3-litre inline six-cylinder engine.
Let’s take a look at the things that make the CLE 53 a rather special performer on the tarmacs:
Exterior
The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 is a looker, to say the least. In its Sun Yellow shade, as you see in the image below, it looks like a beast dressed in style. At just under a length of 5 metres, the CLE 53 has a long nose, flanked by an iconic Panamericana grille with an AMG badge, LED projector headlights, and air intakes beside a gloss black bumper.

On the sides, it gets frameless doors, black ORVMs, chrome door handles, a ‘Turbo’ badging on the fenders and most attractively – those big 20-inch alloy wheels. Look closely and you’d spot red brake callipers too.

At the rear, the CLE 53 looks equally stylish with a sloping roofline and quad-exhausts. The tailgate is gesture-controlled for hands-free convenience.
Interior And Features
Things are familiar inside like a typical AMG – the same dashboard layout with plentiful glossy finish, a portrait touchscreen, turbine-like AC vents, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It has sport bucket leather seats with an all-black upholstery and contrasting red stitches for some character. The front centre bridge has a covered storage bin along with usable cupholders.

The rear seats also get cupholders in between, but a rear-centre armrest would have made life easier. While the rear seat comfort is not the first thing you’d eye out from a car like this, the rear occupants get generous room. There are also rear AC vents and a voice-controllable panoramic sunroof.

Other features include a 17-speaker Burmester 3D audio system, wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, dual-zone auto AC and a head-up display. Safety features include 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera system, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and ADAS features as well.
Powertrain
The AMG CLE 53 has a 3-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. It also gets a 48V mild hybrid assist. The engine makes 450 PS and 560 Nm output, which claims to translate to a top speed of 270 kmph when you hit the gas. Wonder how fast that gets? Well, it claims to sprint from nought to 100 kmph in 4.2 seconds.

ZigSays…
Although this isn’t the only coupe in Mercedes-AMG’s lineup, the CLE 53 stands promising with its power paired with practicality. It takes good care of your fun driving while hosting you with premium comfort and convenience, and fair storage hubs – good to have stuff in a sports car. It looks like a formidable competitor to the BMW M4. Will you consider the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53? Let us know in the comments.
