Lexus, which is essentially categorized as Toyota’s luxury brand, has launched the updated LX 500d in India with prices starting from Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). While it's not a complete overhaul, the update brings in some necessary and interesting changes to the SUV. It is now offered in two variants: Urban and Overtrail. The Overtrail trim brings in plenty of aesthetic as well as mechanical changes.
So what all has changed from the outgoing model? Let’s take a look at:
Commands A Premium
The latest model of the Lexus LX has been priced higher than the outgoing model. Here are the prices:
Variants |
Lexus LX (Old) |
Lexus LX Urban (New) |
Lexus LX Overtrail (New) |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 2.83 crore |
Rs 3 crore |
Rs 3.12 crore |
As seen in the table above, the Lexus LX has been made more expensive now. The price has been increased by Rs 17 lakh, and if you want the new Overtrail variant, you will have to shell out an extra Rs 12 lakh.
So What Is The New Overtrail Variant?
Love the sophistication of the LX but want a more rugged and adventure-focused version? Well, Lexus has introduced the Overtrail variant for that purpose only.
The new Overtrail variant comes with a stealthy-looking blacked-out grille up front. While the Urban trim comes with larger 22-inch wheels, the Overtrail version sports smaller 18-inch matte grey aluminum wheels. Additionally, it ditches the chrome treatment at some other places as well and instead gets sportier-looking blacked-out elements. These include wheel arches, door handles, fog lamp covers, and roof rails.
What catches your attention the most is the special “Moon Desert” hue, which goes really well with the blacked-out design elements.
The interior of the exclusive variant is finished in a special Khaki scheme. The regular variant comes in the Hazel and Crimson colour themes.
To make it more capable than the regular variant, the Overtrail trim comes with both front and rear differential locks. This is in addition to the center differential lock, which is offered on all variants. It also boasts higher-profile tyres for enhancing the driving on unpaved surfaces.
This looks like a good choice of vehicle for our Indian politicians, given the Khakhi finish.
Safer Now!
The mighty SUV has gotten safer now as Lexus has added what they call “Safety System 3.0”. This system combines plenty of features to ensure that you travel in utmost safety. The kit includes a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, safety exit assist, lane departure assist and auto high beam and adaptive high beam system.
More Comfort And Convenience…
The LX gets the latest Lexus connected technology, ensuring a more seamless experience for the owner. The updated connected car features include safety connect, remote connect and service connect. These features enable you to track the daily functionalities of the SUV better, as well as operate certain functions from your smartphone.
Moreover, Lexus has also updated the seat massager, which now gets a new bladder-based refresh seat ensuring lesser fatigue while traveling.
Powertrain Specifications
With electrification taking over, the Lexus LX remains the only oil-burner offering by the luxury brand. It comes with a 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine which makes 309 PS and 700 Nm. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Rivals
The LX competes with the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Range Rover Range Rover.

While the regular variant of the LX does not get plenty in terms of upgrades, the enhanced safety kit and improved comfort-oriented features are welcome. However, the Overtrail variant is what makes the LX even more appealing and gives it a slightly different charm from its usual sophisticated appeal. What do you think about the updated LX?
