The next-gen Cooper’s interior is now more minimalist, with most of the functions being shifted to the big central screen

Mini has revealed the interior design and layout that will make its presence felt in the next-gen Cooper hatchback. The wraps are expected to come off the next-gen hatchback, both in ICE and EV form, sometime in 2024. But if you can’t wait until then for a first look, fret not, as the Cooper SE’s exterior has been leaked ahead of its debut

Coming back to the interior, the next-gen Mini boasts a more minimalistic dashboard design with plenty of retro touches. Obviously, the highlight is the round central screen, which now houses almost all the functions including infotainment, driver’s display, air conditioning and more.

Pushing each and every functionality to the touchscreen, though, in our opinion, isn’t a great move as you need to take your eyes off the road to operate each and every thing. That said, there are physical knobs for important functions like, say, a volume knob. Below it you can see the housing for the wireless phone charger.

The driver also needn't take his eyes off the road, thanks to the presence of a heads-up display. He or she will also appreciate the fact that the Cooper gets a chunky three-spoke steering wheel. The dashboard also gets multiple colour finishes with the co-driver’s side featuring a textured finish and sleek AC vents.

As we mentioned earlier, the next-gen Mini will be offered with multiple powertrain options. So it will get diesel and petrol (probably electrified) as well as pure electric powertrains. We also suspect it to be offered with either a fixed hardtop or a convertible soft top, just like the current model. You can also expect full-blown performance models down the line.

We suspect the next-gen Mini will come to India sometime in 2025 with both ICE and EV models being available here. As of now, it enjoys no rivals in the Indian market, but the EV version will be an alternative to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
