Ferrari Amalfi Spider Unveiled: Is This The Ultimate Entry-Level Grand Tourer?

Ferrari has unveiled the convertible version of their entry-level model, the Amalfi Spider. This is the entry point to the Ferrari brand if you want a fast convertible sports car. But don’t think it comes cheap; it will still command a Ferrari price in India. Expected to be priced around Rs 5 crore, the Amalfi Spider is designed to give you the creme of convertible experiences.

What Is It?

The Amalfi Spider is the soft-top convertible version of the Amalfi Coupe. Being the entry-level Ferrari, the Amalfi Spider is an elegant yet powerful grand-touring (GT) supercar which can take you great distances with great speed. 

The fascia of the Amalfi Spider is very simple and sleek-looking and reminds us of the older Roma. The small horizontal LED DRL strips on either side sit on top of the neatly integrated dual-projector headlamps. The Ferrari logo sits proudly on top of the bumper while underneath, you will find a large grille allowing the 3.9-litre twin-turbo engine to breathe in all it wants.

Moving to the side, the Amalfi Spider has the quintessential grand-tourer silhouette with the low and swooped-back windscreen. The Scuderia crest stands out in the simple yet elegant side profile, which flows from the front through to the muscular haunches on the rear. Note the 20-inch alloy wheels are customisable depending on the specification chosen by the customer. Although the plain silver wheels suit the character of the Amalfi Spider. Ferrari claims the structural rigidity of the Amalfi Spider is as good as the coupe, despite losing its hard rigid roof to a soft top.

The rear profile looks purposeful for speed and style thanks to the quad-tailpipes and the diffuser in the middle. The rear looks serious with four small strips of LED tail lamps tucked underneath the subtle lip spoiler. The rear retractable spoiler is neatly tucked in, and one can almost not tell that there is a retractable spoiler on the tail end of the car. 

Features

Ferraris are never known for their features. However, in today’s world even they have to focus on pampering the customer when sitting inside the cabin. And so, the Amalfi Spider features a triple screen setup, including a massive 15.6-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a small horizontal 8.8-inch passenger display to show the engine RPM, vehicle speed and media controls. 

The Amalfi Spider also includes automatic climate control, powered and heated driver’s seat with memory, wireless phone charger, connected car tech, adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. 

Powertrain

The Amalfi Spider comes with the familiar 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 mated to an 8-speed DCT automatic transmission. This is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in a mere 3.3 seconds, as claimed by Ferrari. Powertrain figures are as follows:

Expected Price & Rivals

The Amalfi Spider is expected to be priced at Rs 5 crore onwards (ex-showroom). This will depend on how the India-Euro FTA has acted on the car prices.

Based on performance and price, the Amalfi Spider can be compared against the Porsche 911, Lamborghini Temerario, Aston Martin DB12, McLaren GTS, and the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Coupe.
