The highly anticipated Tata Curvv EV has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Ahead of the commencement of deliveries, its units have started reaching dealerships across the country, with the customer test-drives to begin shortly. If you have been eyeing one, now is the time to go ahead and check it out at your nearest dealership. Now let's take an overview of the Tata Curvv EV.
The Tata Curvv EV stands out from anything else rolling on the roads, primarily due to its distinct SUV-coupe design and the sloping roofline. The front fascia features a clean appearance resembling other Tata products like the Nexon EV. A full-width spanning LED DRL with welcome and goodbye animation gives it a striking presence. It also indicates the charging status, adding to its premium appeal, while the LED headlights are housed in triangular units lower down in the bumpers, similar to the ones in the new Tata Harrier.
From the side, the Curvv's sloping roofline is the most eye-catching feature, giving the vehicle its unique style. To enhance its rugged appeal, gloss black cladding wraps around the wheel arches, which are filled with 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. Another first for Tata vehicles is the inclusion of flush door handles with integrated illumination, adding a premium touch.
At the rear, the connected LED tail lamps are the main attraction, and just like the LED DRLs, the connected tail lights also offer a stylish welcome and goodbye animation.
The interior layout and dashboard resembles the Tata Nexon EV, but with a few tit-bits changed here and there. However, Tata has made some tweaks to give the Curvv EV's interior its own character.
The dashboard is finished in a black and white color scheme with silver accents. The four-spoke steering wheel is borrowed from the Harrier and Safari models. Additionally, an ambient lighting strip runs along the dashboard and extends into the door panels, creating a stylish atmosphere.
A key feature is the rear seat's ability to recline, offering extra comfort for passengers. The vehicle also provides a generous 500-liter boot space, which can be expanded to 973 liters when the rear seats are folded down, and it also comes with a frunk.
Tata has packed the Curvv EV with features like a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with EV specific graphics, a premium 320W 9-speaker JBL sound system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, multi-color ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate.
On the safety front, the Curvv EV is equipped with six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree surround view camera, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features like blind spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The Tata Curvv EV is the Indian manufacturer’s second product to be developed on its Acti.ev dedicated EV platform and is offered with two battery pack options: Medium Range and Long Range. The Curvv EV Medium Range is offered with a 45kWh battery pack with an electric motor that churns out 150 PS and 215 Nm. This battery pack boasts a claimed range of 502 km and gives the Curvv EV the ability to sprint from standstill to 100 kmph in 9 seconds.
The second option is the Long Range model which gets a 55kWh battery pack which powers an electric motor that produces 167 PS and 215 Nm. This model boasts a claimed range of up to 585 km and Long Range variants of the Curvv EV can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 8.6 seconds.
The Tata Curvv EV is equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) capabilities, allowing its battery pack to power household appliances or even charge another EV. It also supports fast charging, enabling the battery to juice up from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 40 minutes using a 70 kW DC fast-charger. Additionally, the Curvv EV features an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System that emits a low-pitched sound when driving under 20 km/h, helping to alert pedestrians.
The Tata Curvv EV is priced from Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), and rivals other EVs in the market like the MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, Mahindra XUV400 EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX.
