Tell Me About The XEV 9e’s Looks!
- The XEV 9e is based on the XUV e9 concept car in its design but is based on the brand new all-electric INGLO platform
- It measures just under 4.8 metres in length and is a great example of having large dimensions helps deliver the best results for the coupe-SUV body style
- Ground clearance (unladen) stands at 207mm while its battery pack sits higher with 222mm of clearance
- Owing to its large size (94mm longer than even the XUV700), it looks best with the optional 20-inch alloy wheels but is also offered with 19-inch wheels
- The front end sports vertically-stacked full LED headlights and LED DRLs that run across the entirety of the SUV’s face
- Towards the side, you will notice the flush-fitting front door handles and hidden rear door handles. The design is clean and from the side, you get the full effect of the XEV 9e’s size!
- Much like the front, the rear end has a very distinctive connected LED light signature making it impossible to mistake the XEV 9e as anything else
- The 19-inch wheels while styled well look a little small under this near 5 metre long car
-
What’s The XEV 9e Like Inside?
- The base dashboard seems to be a lift off the XUV700 but everything else in the cabin of the XEV 9e is brand new
- A major visual highlight is the triple screen setup that measures around 43 inches across
- The AC control console from the XUV700 also makes way for a piano black touch-panel with shortcuts for a few functions
- The cabin plastics feel smooth and leatherette padding has been used generously to deliver a premium experience
- Steering mounted controls often make you click the horn accidentally
- Piano black control panel under the central AC vents can be very fidgety to use as the icons for the hazard lights or 360-degree camera don’t always click on the first try
- You have to mind your head while getting in as the roofline swoops down sharply
-
Is It Spacious?
- The XEV 9e puts its size to good use offering great cabin space even for tall users
- Even with the sloping roof line, there is good headroom for users up to or a little over 6ft in height
- Thanks to the flat floor, seating 3 occupants at the rear is also comfortable so long as the users are of an average build
- Rear seat users can adjust the backrest angle and the front passenger’s seat can be adjusted from the rear seat using a lever too
- The door pockets are large enough to accommodate big bottles and there’s a large space between the front passengers to store more items
- Without the parcel cover in place, there’s enough room to fit 2 large suitcases into the boot
- The boot space is rated at 663 litres but with the sloping roofline, there’s only space for one full-sized suitcase with the roller-type parcel cover in use
- The XUV700, a car that’s a little smaller in size than the XEV 9e can seat 7 while this is a 5 seater only with a boot that’s isn’t bigger either
-

- Digital instrument cluster response times could’ve been quicker

- Claimed range for the 59kWh battery pack stands at 535km though it should manage 380-450km in real-world conditions
- While charging options for the car are vast, the public charging infrastructure is still often inconsistent and not dependable in many locations

- The XEV 9e is both quick and smooth to drive, with gentle power delivery for city commutes and punch for high speed overtaking
- 0-100kmph takes a claimed 6.8 seconds only!
- One-pedal driving and regen calibration is smooth. First time electric car buyers can get used to the experience quickly
-
About The Handling And Comfort
- Steering is light to use and makes controlling this large car easy
- Handling is predictable too and it feels sharp at high speeds or while cornering
- Noise insulation is great and keeps you relaxed during long commutes
- Ride comfort is something the XEV 9e delivers in spades and even sharp potholes don’t unsettle the cabin
- While being soft enough to handle bad roads, it’s also not too soft or bouncy while driving at highway speeds
-
Who Should Buy The Mahindra XEV 9e?
- The XEV 9e is an electric SUV that makes for a sensible style statement.
- While it looks like a lifestyle SUV, at its core it’s a comfortable, spacious and practical car for the family
- The cherry on top is the tech package that’s more elaborate and loaded than what some luxury SUVs offer while charging more than double the price
- Additionally, the performance is as exciting as it is usable with battery pack options that’ll manage a real-world range of 400-550km quite easily
- The Mahindra XEV 9e is an SUV truly built to global standards. What remains to be seen is if the full range of variants is still offered at a reasonably India-friendly price
