Tata will be offering a 2.0-litre diesel engine underneath the Harrier’s bonnet. The Harrier was recently spied with an automatic transmission, indicating that there will be an automatic variant as well. The Harrier is expected to hit the market in January 2019 but Tata is yet to confirm whether the SUV will also get a petrol engine or not.

  • Q. I was interested to buy a Harrier, but I am having 2nd opinion after enquiring about the SUV with a friend, who recently bought one and facing engine problems. He said the problem started (within 3 weeks!) with steering vibration which was resolved by dealer. The other issue is engine sound inside cabin. He said, that typical old diesel car knocking sound comes during pickup, (after gear shift). Can anyone please explain how a brand new premium SUV (built on Range Rover platform), the show-piece car of TATA Motors, can have such problems?

5k done Agreed on noisy cabin if someone is harsh on accelator pedal. But if someone is gentle it's more silent as other 2.0 diesel engines. Ride quality is buttery smooth no niggles yet. Mileage in city 13 to 14 kmpl and on highways above 18 kmpl. Routine updates from TML makes this car even more user friendly.

  • Q. Do we get any disturbance from engine - Harrier?

It gets the 2.0-litre engine from Fiat which is also provided into Jeep Compass with a different state of tune. The only complaint isn’t actually directed at the engine, but the sound insulation. Tyre noise, road noise and the engine drone should have been better damped. The NVH levels are ideal but the lack of proper insulation has not stopped a little bit noise and vibrations entering the cabin.Read More:Tata Harrier: First Drive Review: https://www.zigwheels.com/reviews-advice/reviews/tata-harrier-first-drive-review/32481/

  • Q. IS ENGINE SOUNDS HEARD IN CABIN - Harrier?

That's the only real complaint we have isn’t actually directed at the heart of this SUV, but the sound insulation. Tata Harrier has a 2.0-liter Multijet heart that is a noisy engine and wind noise inside the cabin is also there. • Q. Is the engine noise louder than Creta - Harrier?

We’d say the noise levels of the engine should’ve been better controlled and a less bouncy rear seat ride would’ve been great too. With the Harrier, we don’t see any major deal breakers, at all. Yes, our media cars did have a few niggles of their own, but we’ve been assured they’ll be ironed out by the time the cars reach the dealerships.
