Powering the Tigor JTP is the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon compact SUV. But, it has been fettled with quite a bit. It runs higher boost pressure, there’s a shorter intake thatforce feeds air, the intercooler is larger, and the exhaust has less back pressure. Put all of these together, and you get a higher power count of 114PS, and higher torque, that is restricted to 150Nm. Tata claims that it will hit 100kmph from standstill in around 10 seconds. A quick casual run timed against a stopwatch saw us hovering around the 11-second mark. So, in ideal conditions, those claimed times seem completely realistic. The cherry on the cake is the ‘pssssh’ sound as the blow-off valve dumps excess boost when you lift off for an upshift. You feel like the cars have character, and that isn’t something you’d get on every ‘fun’ car out there. The Tigor looks like a good overall package with decent equipment, and frugal engines - though these are best used in the city. The JTP variant, on the other hand, caters to the budget-conscious enthusiast who would have had a hole burnt in their pockets earlier.

  • Q. Which one is better, Tigor XZ+ or ford aspire titanium?

Ford Aspire Titanium will be a better pick here as it’s the best looking car in its segment, it’s got well-appointed spacious interiors and plenty of new features that would keep even a tech geek happy. Its also good to see that Ford hasn’t compromised on safety. In fact the weak 1.2 litre petrol engine seems to be the only chink in Ford’s armour right now. The diesel is great to drive and efficient while the automatic variant is sure to offer convenience. The petrol engines are refined and will lap up the city commutes with ease. If ‘fun to drive’ is a must-have on your checklist for the next car, the diesel is the one for you. Overall, the Figo offers good driveability, a long list of features, a good set of USPs and in many ways, undercuts cars that cost a lot more.

Aspire Titanium is approximately 1 Lakh costly, if you can afford go for it. Mileage wise Tigor is better. Space wise Aspire is better, If can Pay 8 Lakh then go for Aspire, or Tigor is better.

  • Q. I am willing to buy Tigor XZ diesel. Is it good or should I buy petrol XZ Tigor?

    Zigwheels | 11 months ago

Tata Tigor in its XZ variant is indeed a good car and it is a well-rounded package. However, choosing between petrol and diesel will depend on your daily car running. If you are travelling less than 50-60km a day, opt for a petrol car instead of a diesel. With the extra Rs 1-1.50 lakh spent on a diesel purchase, you can actually drive a similar petrol car for as many as two years! So, do your math carefully. A diesel usually makes sense if you are driving above 60/70km a day.
