BS6 Phase 2 or BS6.2 or OBD-2 emission regulations are all set to come into effect from April 1, 2023. To comply with the new emission regulations, manufacturers are slowly updating their lineup. But will there be a situation where bikemakers are trying to offload their BS6 inventory at the last moment with hefty discounts, like we experienced during the transition from BS3 to BS4? Well, if you’re waiting for something like that to happen, you’ll end up being disappointed.
That’s because companies are only allowed to manufacture BS6-compliant products till March 31, 2023. Whereas, the government hasn’t given a deadline for sales in particular, so technically, one can buy a brand-new BS6 product even post April 1, if there’s stock available. So, whatever product a bikemaker produces until March 31 can be sold without the need for discounts. That said, the sale of BS6 products (after the new norms kick in) will be only till the stocks last.
You will not notice any difference in performance and efficiency as such, as vehicles that comply with BS6 Phase 2 norms will have to make just a few tweaks to the engine to comply with emissions in not only laboratory conditions, but also in real time, in the real world.

A lot of two-wheelers that were (pre-emptively) updated to the new norms come with a few tangible features to justify the price hike. Yamaha updated its FZ, FZX and MT-15 with traction control in addition to some models becoming compatible with E20 fuel. Now, not everyone might want to use new features, so for some, the price hike may not be justified. If you’re one of those, we’d suggest you purchase your vehicle now when the stock is still fresh.
