It is once again spy shot season, with multiple sightings of upcoming two-wheelers. And the latest one is of a new Bajaj Chetak e-scooter, which features a bunch of different hardware.
While the design looks the same, the test mule was seen sporting a new swingarm equipped with a hub-mounted motor, instead of the mid-mounted unit on the current electric scooter.
Why a hub motor? Well, currently, the biggest problem with the Chetak is its premium price tag of Rs 1,22,723 (on-road Bengaluru). However, with the introduction of a simpler hub-motor mechanism, Bajaj will be able to cut costs in the production of this EV, managing to bring down the price to, say, around Rs 1 lakh.
With the new motor and swingarm, Chetak could also get twin shocks at the rear instead of the current monoshock setup. If we consider that there is a difference in the weight of the e-scooter with the hardware changes, then a slightly different riding experience can be expected.
Lastly, if the price tag is brought down to Rs 1 lakh, the Bajaj Chetak will be able to better rival the likes of the Ola S1 Air, Ather 450S and TVS iQube.
