The end of this month running into mid November, you are in for a sedan shopping treat. A long list of sedans, some popular, some not so but very capable, are being offered at fantastic discounted rates. Everything from entry level sedans like the Indigo eCS to premium luxury sedans like the Sonata have some kind of offer running. You’ve also got a bunch of C-segment sedans to choose from too, a segment that has grown multifold in popularity and sales in the past year.
1. Skoda Rapid
Don’t confuse yourself with the new Rapid that got a massive mechanical update. This one here is the pre-update Rapid that’s yet was supposed to be sold before the launch of the new car. This Rapid, available in the now defunct 1.6-litre TDI engine, is still available at dealerships. Not every showroom will have stock though, so check if the one in your vicinity has one. What you get on the old Rapid is an unbelievable cash discount of Rs 1.07 lakh. For a car with sound mechanicals and a torquey diesel at an already affordable price, this one is borderline irresistible.

2. Hyundai Sonata
The fact that the Sonata comes only with a petrol engine is a major reason for the car not selling well. Another factor contributing to the Sonata’s weak sales is the Hyundai badge. Look past these two and the Sonata makes a lot of sense for a luxury car buyer in for a petrol sedan. It is spacious, refined and looks beautiful. The Sonata comes with an option of a manual and automatic gearbox as well.

3. Fiat Linea
Fiat’s Linea was recently updated but hasn’t quite sold well. It’s already an attractive C-segment offering for someone who wants a good ride and handling car, and Fiat has also positioned the Linea a notch lower than popular sedans in this segment. That makes the Linea a tempting offering. Fiat has now sweetened the deal with a Rs 78,000 worth bundled offer on the car. With its improved interiors, features and quality of materials, the Linea looks upmarket as well. It’s definitely one of the more inviting offers in our list this month.

4. Hyundai Verna
Hyundai’s Verna is due for an update early next year. For the next two months though, the car has to fend off some stiff competition from the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz , both cars upping the game considerably in the segment. And that makes the Verna a third choice here. To tempt buyers though, Hyundai is now offering discounts from Rs 65,000-70,000 on the Verna. That’s one heck of a deal for a car that still looks like the best in the segment.

5. Hyundai Elantra
Three Hyundai sedans show up in our October list, the Elantra being the third of the lot. Since the launch of the Octavia and more so after the new Corolla Altis hit the market, the Elantra isn’t doing too well. For an executive sedan, the Elantra is good value for money. It also looks attractive and comes with a nice petrol engine. The diesel is a tad underpowered but otherwise, the Elantra is feature rich and worth a looks for someone who uses the car mainly for an office commute, because there are much better highway cars in the segment besides the Elantra.

6. Nissan Sunny
Almost the entire C-segment has gotten a fresh face this year and the Sunny is part of it. But what seems to be working for most cars here, hasn’t quite ticked for the Sunny. And that translates to good discounts for a car that looks better, comes with more features and has excellent space for five adults. A bundled offer to the tune of Rs 60,000 is running on the Sunny. We’d still suggest you opt for a Verna though.

7. Chevrolet Cruze
The diesel rocket, as many in India fondly call the Cruze, is quite the car on the spec sheet. It is a fantastic straight line tool but loses out on the twisties to the likes of the Octavia and Jetta. If you want a quick highway car that’s fairly easy on the wallet, the Cruze makes a good case for itself though. The Cruze falls back on rear seat comfort and space compared to its rivals so buy it if you don’t use the rear seats often and when you do, they are for children and youngsters most of the time.

8. Tata Indigo eCS
Tata Motors has launched the Zest now and so it makes little sense to go for the Indigo eCS. The car is two generations younger and quite the brute compared to the much more polished and accomplished Zest. The only reason to by the Indigo eCS is its affordability now. It gives hatchbacks a run for their money and in the cab market that has its worth. Ignore this car for reasons besides the sticker price.

9. Chevrolet Sail
Chevrolet gave the Sail an update but the car isn’t that popular to sell at launch prices. Discounts are expected from every car from the Chevy stable these days yet the Sail is turning out to be a hard bargain. Dealers are offering a Rs 20,000 exchange bonus and a Rs 3,000 corporate discount, which are meaningful offers. We doubt if most customers come from the Chevrolet clan so a Rs 20,000 loyalty bonus in addition to the aforementioned discounts will not apply. Overall, the deal isn’t tempting; look elsewhere.

10. Renault Scala
The Scala is a pricey alternative to the Sunny and now with the Sunny’s improved looks and features, it makes a much better choice. Discounts on the Sunny are quite high too so unless you want a Renault lozenge sitting pretty on your hood, go for the Sunny. Even better, opt for a Verna with the discounts going on it, or your best bet is waiting for early 2015 when the Verna update hits the market.
