Just ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has teased the EQS all-electric sedan through a video on Facebook. The upcoming model will join the EQC as the second electric production-spec model in Merc’s EQ lineup. The ‘S’ in the name suggests that the EQS could become the equivalent of the mighty S-Class in the EQ lineup.

The sneak peek given by Mercedes shows us various design elements of the EQS. Its grille gets an illuminated tristar logo, which is drool worthy to say the least. Then there’s the clean side profile that could make the EQS a slippery and aero efficient sedan. And earlier spy shots and teasers reveal that the EQS will come with a sloping roofline a la the Mercedes CLS. Apart from the badging, the rear-end of the EQS has been kept under wraps.
The interiors of the EQS are yet to be revealed. But based on the carmaker’s intentions, expect the EQS to come with a luxurious interior that’s draped with the finest of materials. Considering the fact that the next-gen S Class will come with a Tesla-like dashboard, there’s nothing wrong in expecting the same in the EQS.

Powertrain details of the EQS are yet to be revealed. Reports suggest that the EQS will come with two electric motors to drive all four wheels. The same set up in the EQC SUV develops 402PS and 765Nm, but we expect the EQS to be more powerful. Expect it to offer a similar range as the EQC, which has a claimed range of around 450km.

Internationally, the EQS is expected to go on sale by 2020. When launched, it will take on the likes of the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan. Considering the fact that Mercedes will be launching the EQC in India soon, we expect the German carmaker to bring the EQS luxury electric sedan to our shores too. Don’t expect it to be cheap, though.
