The New Nettuno 630PS Twin-Turbo V6 Is Maserati’s First Engine Post The Ferrari Split

• The new engine makes 630PS of power and 730Nm of torque with a rev limit of 8000rpm.

Back in May last year, it was announced that the long-running engine association between Maserati and Ferrari, which started in 2002, would come to an end. And now, Maserati has unveiled the first engine post its split with Ferrari. Dubbed the Nettuno, the new engine sports technology inspired from Formula 1. 

The engine in question is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that delivers 630PS of power and 730Nm of torque. It boasts a rev limit of up to 8000rpm and a specific power output of 210PS per litre. The main talking point of the engine is the innovative pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs inspired from Formula 1. Essentially, this system reduces noise low down on the rev range, lowering emissions and improving consumption in the process.

Maserati will debut this in-house developed Nettuno engine in the upcoming MC20 sportscar that will officially be revealed at the ‘MMXX: The time to be audacious’ event in Modena on September 9-10. The Maserati MC20 will serve as a tribute to British racing legend Sir Stirling Moss who passed away on April 12, 2020, at the age of 90. Details of the upcoming sports car are scarce, but we expect a reveal as we get closer to its debut.

In other news, Maserati is joining the electric race. The carmaker has already announced a roadmap for its future portfolio consisting of hybrid and electric vehicles starting with the Ghibli. Going back to internal combustion engines, expect the Nettuno engines to make its way to next-gen Maserati cars like the Levante SUV and the GranTurismo replacement in different states of tune.
