The Grand Cherokee 4xe will officially debut at the 2021 New York International Auto Show in August.
The all-electric next-gen Wrangler will get autonomous off-roading capabilities, drone pairing, remote vehicle tracking , and biometric recognition.
Jeep will install solar chargers in remote locations.
In India, we are expecting the new Compass-based 7-seater SUV in 2022, and the return of the Grand Cherokee.
With Stellantis revealing its roadmap for electrification, Jeep, one of the 14 brands under its umbrella also revealed its take on what’s coming for the future. And it’ll be a lot of electrification as well as some nifty tech meant to enhance the Jeep off-road experience.
Jeep targets to have an electrified or 4xe plug-in-hybrid offering for its entire lineup by 2025. That will start with the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in-hybrid, with its first images revealed at the Stellantis EV Day event. It will officially debut at the upcoming 2021 New York International Auto Show scheduled to run from August 20-29, 2021.
The carmaker also gave more tidbits on what to expect from the next-generation all-electric Wrangler off-roader. A cool feature will be autonomous off-roading capabilities, that should make tackling the rough terrains that little bit easier. Other nifty features will include biometric recognition, remote vehicle tracking, flat-seat option, as well as drone-pairing capabilities.
Since making a full-fledged electric charging station would be difficult in remote areas, Jeep will be installing solar-powered charging stations. What’s more, the Wrangler EV can also do EV-to-EV charging. While Jeep showcased the capabilities of the next-generation Wrangler EV at the event, t, the current-gen JL series model will also get an electric offering. The carmaker had revealed the Magneto Wrangler EV concept in March 2021, with the production-spec model expected to debut sometime later this year or in early 2022.
For the Indian market though, Jeep’s electrification plans may take some time to take effect. For now, the carmaker is focusing on bringing a 7-seater SUV based on the Compass for 2022 and the return of the Grand Cherokee moniker.
