DSK Motorwheels to invest Rs 300 cr to set up new plant

The DSK group is not new to the automotive Industry in India. The Pune based group, has 7 Toyota car dealerships and are dealers of Hino commercial vehicles across Maharashtra. This diversified group with varied business interests has now announced their maiden business venture into the two-wheeler segment with the launch of DSK Motowheels Pvt Ltd.
With this tie-up DSK Motowheels will take the onus of assembling, marketing and selling ‘Hyosung’ Superbikes in the country and replaces Garware Motors Limited as the exclusive distributors of ‘Hyosung’ Motorcycles in India. This new venture would be named as ‘DSK Hyosung.’ DSK Motowheels would be taking over the manufacturing facility of Garware Motors Ltd in Wai. All 18 dealerships of Garware Motors Limited will also be transferred to DSK Motowheels.
Speaking on this occasion, Shirish Kulkarni, Managing Director of DSK Motowheels, said, “We are excited to get in to the Superbiking market and are glad to be associated with a brand like Hyosung which is known for its stylized powerful bikes . In one year of their existence Hyosung has built a name for itself in the minds of Superbiking enthusiasts of the country and we want to take this forward. Hyosung has the experience, technology and product mix required for Indian market.”
With front end sales, capital and marketing as its core strengths, the DSK Group plans to invest as much as Rs 300crore on the Korean superbike brand in the coming years, and is seriously looking at close to 90% localization in the next 2-3 years.
This will not only make the Korean high-end motorcycles far more affordable to enthusiasts in the country, but with the help of aggressive marketing campaigns and a wider sales and service network pan India, offer customers a more satisfactory and wholesome superbike ownership experience. Outlining DSK’s future plans for brand Hyosung in India, Mr. Kulkarni announced that DSK Motowheels is considering setting up a full-fledged plant very near to Pune.

Besides the GT250R (Read : 2012 Hyosung GT250R First Ride) scheduled for launch later this month, Korean giants S&T Motors have also said that they will additionally be launching two new superbike models this year, the GV650 and the GV250. We expect the launch of the lower displacement GV250 sports bike model during the festivities this year.
