Japan Mobility Show 2025: 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser “FJ”, The Baby Land Cruiser In 10 Images

Toyota has finally refreshed the entire Land Cruiser line-up. First was the LC300 (which we fortunately get in India), followed by the LC250 (which we would love to have in India), and now comes the baby Land Cruiser, the FJ Prototype (take our money, Toyota, and get it here!!!). 

The LC FJ Prototype was revealed a few days ago, but it has finally made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. Let’s take a closer look at the smallest Land Cruiser through 10 images: 

Exterior

The FJ looks more like a shrunken LC250 than the LC300. That’s not a bad thing since both SUVs are handsome and rugged-looking. The front reminds you of the Hilux Champ pick-up truck, based on the IMV 0 concept, and that’s no coincidence because the FJ Prototype’s platform is a refined version of Toyota’s dependable IMV platform. 

The standard version of the FJ Prototype uses C-shaped, squarish LED DRLs and headlamps, but it can also be customised to come with round LED DRLs and headlamps. There are oodles of plastic body cladding on the FJ Prototype to lend it its rugged aesthetics. 

Over to the sides, the FJ Prototype has a staggered window line and a massively thick C-pillar, which gives it a slightly odd look at the back. Paired with the tailgate-mounted spare wheel, the tapering roofline and the small-ish rear windscreen, the rear visibility of the FJ Prototype seems to be compromised. Despite the tapering roofline, the rear windscreen is quite wide since the taillamps are mounted on the edge of the tailgate. 

Interior

The rugged nature of the FJ Prototype extends inside the cabin, too. It shares its steering wheel with the LC250 as well as the dual-screen layout. It comes with an all-black interior theme. 

On the corners, you get round AC vents (similar to a Jimny or Thar) but rectangular AC vents in the centre. Like the LC250, the FJ Prototype comes with a large infotainment touchscreen and a large driver’s display (the size of both hasn’t been revealed yet). There’s also another small screen which displays the AC temperature and settings. 

The FJ Prototype also gets a tray on the dashboard, yes, you read it right! On the passenger side, the dashboard is deep enough and has a flat surface, which can act as a tray to keep stuff. Pretty nifty. 

Features

As of now, Toyota hasn’t revealed the entire features list of the FJ Prototype and is expected to do so closer to the market launch in Japan in mid-2026. However, we do know that it will get the aforementioned dual-screen setup as well as ADAS. 

Powertrain

Currently, the FJ Prototype will come with just one powertrain – a 2.7-litre petrol with 163 PS and 246 Nm, mated to a 6-speed electronically controlled torque converter automatic transmission. It also has a part-time four-wheel drive system, meaning it can be engaged in two-wheel drive mode for city conditions. The petrol engine isn’t new for Toyota, as we’ve seen in cars like the Toyota Fortuner and Innova Crysta petrol (which is now discontinued). 

Is It Coming To India?

While neither Toyota’s global division nor the Indian department has confirmed if the FJ Prototype will come to India, we can only hope and pray that it does. It shouldn’t be an issue for Toyota to localise the FJ Prototype in India as the other IMV-based models (Fortuner, Hilux and Innova Crysta) are already built at its plant in Bidadi, Karnataka.

The Baby Land Cruiser can easily make its space in the hearts of the Indian buyers since we absolutely adore big boxy SUVs.
