Rich heritage, modern equipment, and sensible pricing

The price of the highly anticipated BSA Gold Star has been leaked and contrary to market speculation, it will be an affordable motorcycle. Since its unveiling in December 2021, the launch of this highly anticipated motorcycle has been delayed a fair bit. But with the prices in place, it looks like that’s going to change very soon.

The upcoming BSA Gold Star will be a big 650cc thumper with a retro-modern design to appease both the old-timers and the hipsters alike. Interestingly, this liquid-cooled 652cc single-cylinder engine has its roots in the Rotax-developed model of identical displacement, which BMW had employed on the F650 Funduro.

The BSA Gold Star will make 45.6PS and 55Nm (2PS less and 3Nm more than the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650), and though that may not be the most thrilling proposition on paper, it certainly packs enough to dig into the competition’s wallet share.

See, both Royal Enfield and BSA are heritage British brands with a fair amount of novelty value. We were expecting Classic Legend to price it well over the Interceptor 650, at somewhere around rupees five lakh in India. But this leak suggests the prices will begin at GBP 6,500 (roughly Rs 6.15 lakh) and go up to GBP 7,000 (roughly Rs 6.63 lakh) depending on the colour option, just like you would pay for an RE Interceptor.

For reference, an Interceptor costs roughly GBP 6200(roughly Rs 5.87 lakh) in the UK, a lot more than what we pay here in India. So if an Interceptor costs Rs 3.33 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, we could expect BSA to price this somewhere under the Rs 5 lakh mark to compete efficiently with its British cousin.
