The electric crossover-sedan is scheduled to make its official debut in 2024

  • Ola EV to get Tesla-like steering controls with similar buttons on each side.

  • It’ll have a centre touchscreen for infotainment, ambient lighting and a hexagonal steering wheel design.

  • Concept version also gets a hexagonal steering wheel and rearview cameras.

  • Prices are expected to start at around Rs 40 lakh.

At the Diwali launch event for its latest scooter, the S1 Air, Ola dropped a new teaser of its upcoming electric car, giving us a hint of its interior for the first time. The cleanly designed electric crossover-sedan already has us excited with its Tesla-esque design cues and overall silhouette, and now its interior seems just as cutting-edge as the exterior.

Let’s talk about what we can see first – the hexagonal steering wheel. It gets identical buttons and toggle switches on each side; the absence of icons gives us a hint that they might be multi-function buttons similar to what Tesla offers. While most cars offer audio switches on the left and cruise controls on the right, the Ola EV’s steering controls might be configurable for controlling multiple features and functions in the car.

Ola also gives us a very dark glimpse of the car’s dashboard that seems to have a soft-touch material at the top instead of bare plastic. With a little brightening and contrast reduction, it becomes clear that the EV will have a large infotainment touchscreen at the centre. Not much more is discernable, but there’s also a hint of a floating digital driver’s display behind the steering wheel.

The EV will also be equipped with a panoramic glass roof, the latest MoveOS operating system for controlling different functions as well as driver assistance capabilities.

A better look at the exterior

This teaser gives us another close look at the EV’s front end. It has rear-view cameras instead of mirrors, alongside LED headlights with a full-width daytime running light (DRL) that we’ve already seen in previous teasers. Here, the EV’s upright crossover-like stance is more apparent than ever.

There’s still some time before we get to see the concept version of the upcoming EV, let alone its production-ready form. Nevertheless, with its advanced tech and features, the Ola EV will go head-to-head with global electric models such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6.
