Traditional Automatic Transmission(AT), also known as a torque-converter, this automatic transmission is one of the most common types of gearboxes that can be found on budget as well as expensive luxury cars. Instead of a clutch this gearbox uses a torque converter to spool up the power and it also has smooth and relatively quick gearshifts. The application for this gearbox is quite widespread. On the other hand, A dual-clutch transmission(DCT) uses two separate shafts with their own clutches for gear shifts: one shaft for odd-numbered gears and the other for even-numbered gears. This type of automatic transmission is purely a performance-oriented transmission that also delivers good fuel efficiency but comes at a penalty of higher manufacturing cost. If a problem arises they are also expensive to maintain. In case of Sonet, DCT is available with a turbocharged petrol engine and AT is available with a naturally aspirated Diesel Engine. The Sonet’s 7-speed DCT doesn’t particularly shine. It simply gets the job done. You’d be underwhelmed if you compared it to say Volkswagen’s DSG. That said, you would appreciate that the shifts are super smooth, and it’s rare that the gearbox gets confused or selects the wrong gear. You get a manual mode in case you want sprightlier acceleration, but there are no paddle shifters on offer. If your daily car usage is less and want a fun to drive car, you may go for Sonet DCT. The Sonet is currently the only vehicle to offer a proper torque converter paired with a diesel motor in a segment that offers just AMTs. As a bonus, you also get the Seltos’ engine tune with an additional 15PS of power and 10Nm. This drivetrain is best appreciated on long highway trips, where you’d want to cover over 500km a day. The smooth (but slightly slow) shifts from the automatic will keep fatigue at bay, while the diesel engine will ensure the wallet is happy by being frugal. For city usage, it feels responsive thanks to all that torque the engine has to offer. Do take a test ride in order to get better clarity. Check out authorised dealership details.

  • Q. MT Vs Automatic transmission of cars, which one durable and reliable in terms of performance wise and pick up etc - Sonet?

If you'll be driving more in heavy city traffic then we suggest you to opt for Automatic Transmission which are easier to use and more comfortable for the driver, while Manual Transmission vehicles are less expensive more involved & are more fun to drive on highways. Whereas, every one of us knows that traffic is becoming an ever increasing pain. It does not matter how quick your manual gearbox responds or how reliable it is when you get stuck in a huge traffic jam and suffer excruciating pain in your left leg constantly depressing the clutch. Kia Sonet gets multiple powertrain options - the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines are offered with a manual transmission, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol gets the iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) clutchless manual only. Automatic transmission options are only available for the 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines, with the diesel option utilizing a proper 6-speed torque converter. • Q. Is Kia Sonet IMT good to buy?

The iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) is available only with the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. If you are eyeing for a everyday use SUV with hassle-free driving traits, the iMT could deliver good driving experience at a fraction of the cost. The iMT combination is fun to drive and it reaches the 0-100kmph mark in 12.3 seconds. It delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.2kmpl. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride for a better understanding of comfort and compatibility. Poor brakes, Very very weak suspension, No sufficient leg space even in drivers seat, Very bad after sales service, To be improve is first improve the breaks, Improve the suspension by providing heavy action coil springs along with suitable shockabsorbers, Provide leg space in drivers seat by reducing the boot space

Its been almost 40 days since i purchased kia sonet htx imt.Overall i am very pleased with the experience.I would want to highlight both good points and not so good points: good points: 1.The performance of the car.Having driven amt earlier this car is superb in pickup and the overall road performance. It feels sporty and i always felt enthralled while driving it even in tight spots or open roads. It reaches 100 kmph in no time. The handling even at high speed is superb and you always feel in control of car.Braking at high speed is again pretty good and you feel confident.2.Look and features are superb in this price bracket and i really doubt any other car in this price bracket provides such package of looks, Power and features.Speaker quality is quite good given that it is not bose and an in-house speaker.I had to do few modifications in the speaker settings to get the best output.3.Imt transmission is smooth though gear shifting for me was little hard in beginning as i was not used to this transmission.4.Best part- service- from car sales to first service i have never felt so good in terms of the overall experience.I called my sales advisor when i felt an issue in my car (which was nothing but my inexperience with transmission). He immediately came to my house with one of their service person and looked into the issue. They did not say anything when they found it was nothing but even guided me on the overall transmission and car handling process. That was awesome! even during the service and after i have been getting calls from both kia service center and company on the service experience and it is really good. The service advisor don't force you to buy anything extra, Though they will suggest so.Not so good points:1.Mileage- even after my first service, I am getting mileage of 9-10 kmpl.Company promises 18.2, So i am expecting at least 13-14 in city and 18 in highways.I have not traveled more than 50-60 km in one stretch, So it is still to be tested on long routes.2.Creep mode- i have faced few issues with creep mode particularly in reverse mode where even on flat surfaces sometimes it doesn't work smoothly.3.There are few dos and donts with imt transmission which need to get used to to prolong clutch and transmission life.Overall, Till now i am pleased with the experience and would recommend the car to other buyers.

Love the car, But mileage is a big issue for turbo petrol variant. Its been about 100 days i own sonet htx petrol.Displays mileage of 9-10 in local without ac.Have done around 800 km highway trip, Still got only around 13.Poor in mileage dept.Performance is very good on highways and imt convenient in city, Little underpowered at low rpm but not as bad as nexon, So satisfactory enuf.Overall i consider it a good buy because my running is less, It gives me pleasure on driving & love the feel inside it.Seats good enuf, Cud hv been better though.Mileage is little disappointing. In hot delhi summer, It may drop to 9 with ac, Will see.

Yes it is possible.I bought a kia sonet htx petrol engine car recently and these were the questions i had as well.As the difference amount between htx and htx+ version is 2.3 lakhs i felt it's waste to spend extra money, Instead i can upgrade the htx externally after buying and it worked out well for me.I added the below add ons to my htx car 1.2 air purifiers2.Alloy wheels3.Amplified sound system4.Lightingit costed me around 90k basically i saved 1.5 lakh with extra interest charges on the financial optionshope it was helpful.Thank you.

Canceled Venue SX petrol and waited for this and it was worth it. I got HTX diesel at the same ex-showroom price with all the additional features and latest interior & exterior. Engine 5/5Comfort, 5/5Space, 4/5 (4 persons in my family) Interior 5/5 (as per other options in the segment), Overall rating 4.9/5. The only downside is steel wheel caps not looking so great. We will change soon. The showroom guys won't allow for self-insurance/zero bargaining/long waiting if not pre-booked. Hopefully, I pre-booked the first day itself.
