Nissan is set to shake up the compact SUV segment with the all new Kicks!
Expected to launch in India in January 2019, this all new SUV will go toe to toe with the likes of the popular Hyundai Creta and its Renault cousin Captur. With a tried and tested combination of engines, and segment first features thrown in the mix, does the new Kicks have what it takes to step up to its competitors? We find out in our first drive.
Engines:
Powering the Nissan Kicks will be the same engines as the Renault Captur’s - a 106PS, 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre, 110PS diesel.
Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual for the petrol and 6-speed manual for the diesel; there won’t be an automatic transmission at the time of launch.
Dimensions:
The ground clearance of the Nissan Kicks is rated at 210mm, the same as the Renault Captur’s. Boot space of 400 litres isn’t the best but is marginally more than the Captur’s. Although it does boast of the longest wheelbase in its segment along with the Captur.
Features:
Standard safety features in the Nissan Kicks comprise dual airbags, ABS with EBD and BA as well as ISOFIX child seat mounts. Top-spec will also get side airbags, ESP and hill start assist. The Nissan Kicks is equipped with a first-in-class 360-degree camera that’s meant to aid the driver when parking by providing a bird’s eye view of the surroundings. Other features in the Nissan Kicks include LED projector headlamps, 17-inch alloys, rain-sensing wipers, cooled and illuminated glovebox, cruise control and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Pricing:
The Nissan Kicks will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross and Renault Captur with a likely price tag of Rs 10-14 lakh (ex-showroom).
