We have finally gotten behind the wheel of the new Compass Trailhawk, an SUV that can venture further off-road than any Compass before it. It also adds in the convenience of a 9-speed automatic and the bonus of a BS6 compliant engine as well. We tell you how it fares off-road, on tarmac and also if it’s that diesel automatic option that so many of you have been waiting for in the Compass India lineup.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is powered by a BSVI compliant 2.0-litre diesel MultiJet motor that makes 170PS and 350Nm. Other powertrain options include a 1.4-litre petrol making 160PS and 250Nm. This is mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission. The other diesel variants of the Compass are powered by the same 2.0-litre motor in the Trailhawk but only come with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The new 9-speed gearbox definitely takes the stress out of having to deal with that heavy clutch that the diesel manual variants were quite infamous for. The Trailhawk also gets a massive mechanical boost that gives it some very impressive off-road abilities. And the BSVI compliant 2.0 Multijet diesel is also happy to run on BSIV fuel till the new grade of fuel is available later.
