The first Cartier Concours d'Elegance was held in Mumbai back in 2008. As an internationally recognized event, it drew a lot of attention towards to rich motoring culture that India had to offer. Now, in its second edition, the show has moved from Mumbai to Delhi, however the flavour still remains the same display of pure Indian motoring grandeur.
The theme for the 2011 edition of the event is a focus on the British Motor Industry, which, for obvious reasons, has an entwined history with early days of motoring in India. Over 56 cars are taking part in the event that includes a contest and of notable interest is the fact that some of these cars have never been showcased before on such a grand scale, let alone at an event of international repute.
With the aim to highlight India's rich motoring heritage and its many facets, the Cartier Concours d'Elegance is a showcase of some of the finest and most lavishly built cars. Most of these purebred cars were shipped to India on the request of some or the other Maharaja, and they normally had their cars built with specially commissioned lavish bodies designed by coach builders from across the globe. The result being these wonderful cars that are a throwback to Indian history as much as they are to motoring history.
As with any such show of international repute, the Cartier 'Travel With Style' Concours d'Elegance features an illustrious panel of judges that include H.R.H. Prince Michael of Kent, Sir Anthony Bamford, Sir Michael Kadoorie, Gordon Murray, Marc Newson, Simon Kidston, Lapo Elkann, Peter Stevens, William E Conner, John E McCaw Jr, Bryan Ferry, Oliver Martinez, David Clark, Geordie Greig, and Yasmin Le Bon.
