When Mitsubishi revived its performance-oriented ‘Ralliart’ brand after an 11-year hiatus, it was a bit of a lukewarm return with minor cosmetic tweaks to the Pajero Sport in Thailand. Fortunately, it seems like Mitsubishi has been paying attention as they’ve teased a racy Ralliart concept that will break cover at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022, scheduled to run from January 14-16.
As things stand, details are quite scarce with the single teaser image released, but there are plenty of hints to suggest that it’ll have a bold design. The image is of the concept’s rear, featuring a very chunky diffuser. Look closer and you’ll see Ralliart badging to denote its performance credentials. At the centre of the diffuser, there seems to be LED strips for the fog light like something out of a Formula One race car. Aside from this, the rear bumper looks nicely sculpted, hinting at a sporty looking model.
The main highlight will undoubtedly be under the hood. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi hasn’t revealed anything yet. But since the model teaser image didn’t seem to have any visible exhaust tips. It might even be an all-electric offering.
Expect more details on the Mitsubishi Ralliart concept to surface ahead of its debut. While this concept may not make it to production, it could form the basis of a performance-oriented SUV as most of the Japanese carmaker’s model lineup consists of SUVs (Pajero Sport, Outlander, and more).
Back home, Mitsubishi’s future is uncertain as the Pajero Sport and Outlander have been off the shelves since the onset of the BS6 norms. We do hope the company considers reviving its India operations soon.
