It’s been raining launches over the past few weeks in the country and the next car to fall in line is the Volvo S60 Cross Country that will be officially introduced in India on March 11, at a Mumbai hotel. The car was first unveiled in full guise ahead of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and is now heading to the Indian shores this month.
The Chinese-owned Scandinavian carmaker hopes that adding a Volvo S60 variant to its most successful midsize sedan 60 series would further boost the sales of the brand. With the introduction of the S60 Cross Country, Volvo is targeting the growing demand in the crossover segment, globally, by clubbing the best elements of an SUV with those of a standard family car.
On the outside, S60 Cross Country conveys an imposing, muscular presence while integrated tailpipes reflect its sporty dark side. The most notable aspect of the car is its increased ride height from the S60. The new S60 Cross Country is 4,635mm long, 2,097mm wide, 1,484mm tall, and offers an increased ride height of 65mm to allow for extra ground clearance and an elevated driving position.
The new S60 Cross Country will be offered with both 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, both running high profile tyres. Other features on the car include a luxurious roomy leather interior, with ergonomic sport seats. Premium Sound, Volvo On Call, Sensus Connect, Sensus Navigation, Park Assist Pilot and Adaptive Cruise Control further add to the connectivity and safety on the car.
Engine options will be the same as other cars in the 60 series, in the form of the 253.4PS 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbocharged engine and 6-speed, driver-shiftable automatic transmission.
The car is expected to demand a premium of at least Rs 4-5 lakh more than the S60 that costs around Rs 35 lakh for the base model in India currently. Waiting for it in the sub-continental peninsula will be competition from the likes of the BMW 5-series, Jaguar XF and Mercedes Benz CLA Class.
