In what can be viewed as a major reshuffle in the Indian two-wheeler industry Vikram Pawah has left Harley-davidson India where he held the post of managing director. December 31, 2016 was his last day at Harley-Davidson and there isn’t any concrete information about his future endeavours. However, according to some industry sources, Pawah is heading to BMW to head both its car business and the upcoming two-wheeler venture BMW Motorrad. Harley-Davidson announced that Marc McAllister, VP and managing director for international sales markets has been appointed as the interim managing director until the company finds a successor for Pawah.
Regarding Vikram Pawah’s exit, Harley-Davidson India released the following statement, “Harley-Davidson confirms that Vikram Pawah, Managing Director for India, has left the company effective December 31, 2016. We would like to thank Vikram for his contribution to our business in India, and we wish him success in his future endeavours.”
He had joined in 2015 and was preceded by Anoop Prakash who led the company's entry into India and was at the helm for a little over six years before shifting to oversee the company's Canadian business. Pawah has more than 25 years of experience, of which 21 were with Honda in India and Australia. Before joining Harley-Davidson India, he was the assistant vice president and operating head of sales with Honda Cars India Ltd. While some reports associate his exit with the ongoing tussle between the American bikemaker and Street 750 owners regarding its braking system, the company has dismissed such speculation.
