At the Autosport Awards in London on Sunday, Kris Nissin also announced the German giant’s wish to have two-time world champion Carlos Sainz take part in a competitive rally for VW before the Spanish driver decides to retire from rallying.
Sainz is currently working as a consultant for the Wolfsburg based company but hasn’t been in a competitive rally since his last appearance in the Dakar in South America last January in which he took the best finish.
“There are two more announcements I would like to make. One is to get Sebastian Vettel to test one of our cars. It could be great for our sport if it could be possible because he is a two times Formula One world champion but it won’t be easy. I would also like Carlos to do a race in one of our cars as well,” said Nissen.
Sebastian Vettel has never participated in any rally event before his interest in the sport has always been evident since his visit to the Neste Oil rally Finland in 2009. In fact, during the Race of Champions 2011, the German champion insisted on driving the Skoda Fabia Super 2000 similar to the one used by Juho Hanninen to win the Super 2000 World Rally Championship this year.
