It is likely to have the same dual-motor powertrain setup as the concept that was showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
AMG variants are unlikely to boast such high range figures, but are likely to be more powerful.
It could make it to India later in 2021 since the EQC is coming this year.
Rivals could include the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.
We all know that Mercedes-Benz is hard at work dreaming up what it hopes will eventually become the S-Class of EVs: the EQS. The upcoming luxury EV from Mercedes was showcased as a concept at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and the production version is likely to be revealed later this year. Now, just ahead of its debut, Daimler head Honcho Ola Källenius has revealed some juicy bits on the upcoming electric sedan at a shareholder’s meeting.

Källenius revealed that, “The EQS will set standards. More than 700 kilometers of driving range according to WLTP – that’s how far it can go on one battery charge.” This makes it more of a match against the likes of the Tesla Model S. The Model S Long Range variant has a claimed range of 610km on a single charge, calculated as per WLTP (UK-spec model) standards.

Powertrain details on the EQS are still under wraps, but we expect them to be similar to the concept that debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept is powered by electric motors at the front and rear, that produce 488PS of power and 760Nm of torque. Yes, there’s an AMG variant also coming and it’s likely to be more powerful, though it may not offer the mind boggling range figures that were revealed. Instead, the non-AMG models are likely to get the higher range options and a 100kWh battery pack.

Expect the EQS EV to be unveiled sometime later this year with production likely to begin in 2021. It is expected to make it to India considering the EQC is on its way here. Given its claimed range figures, it could be a tough competitor to the Tesla Model S, with the AMG models likely to give the Porsche Taycan a run for its money.
