Tata To Launch The 'Tiago Plus'

The Bolt Sport was officially showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo and was ready for the Indian market later this year. However, the sales of the regular Bolt were not up to the mark (2000 Bolts sold in 2014-2015) and considering this sales record Tata is now in a dilemma whether the Bolt Sport will be accepted by the people as it is expensive and less fuel efficient that the standard one.

To clear out this confusion of whether the Bolt Sport will be accepted by the general crowd despite being expensive and less fuel efficient, Tata now is focusing on developing a hot-hatch variant of the new Tiago (i.e. the 'Tiago Plus'). The Tiago has been received quite well in the market; sales of the hatchback stood at 5000 units in July.

The Tiago plus may either use the same unit as was expected in the Bolt Sport, which is capable of producing 120PS of power, or it could get a revised turbocharged version of the present 1.2 three-cylinder engine. Alongside the new engine, the Tiago plus is most likely to come with lowered suspensions, stiffer damping, and a tweaked body kit to differentiate it from the standard Tiago. According to sources, this new hatch could be launched early this November, though there is no official confirmation. Now, let us see if this performance-oriented Tiago can take on rivals such as the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS and the Abarth Punto.
