Suzuki’s 250cc Motor Becomes Greener...

Suzuki’s unique 249cc engine made its debut in India on the Gixxer SF 250 last year and also made its way onto the naked Gixxer 250. This was Suzuki’s second crack at the quarter-litre segment in India as its previous attempt, the Inazuma, wasn’t quite successful. The mellow parallel-twin of the cruiser didn’t appeal to many and the alarmingly high price tag of the bike did no favours for the company either. While the bike ceased to exist in India, it still is sold across the world with the same 250cc parallel-twin motor, which is now ready to get its Euro 5 update.

Patent images of Suzuki’s parallel-twin mill have surfaced online with a revised exhaust system. Much like most small capacity motorcycles in the BS6 era, the patent reveals an additional chunky cat-con to compliment the old one to improve the quality of exhaust gasses. The current images showcase the exhaust header pipes running into the new cat-con. Suzuki was also toying around with the idea for individual pipes getting their own cat-con units, but that would have driven up the costs.

It is highly unlikely that we will see this engine Male a comeback in India. The engine appears on motorcycles like the V-Strom 250, GSX250R and the Inazuma. However, Suzuki India already has a faired motorcycle in the 250cc class with the Gixxer SF 250 and there are rumours of the same single-cylinder motor being put into an adventure as well as a cruiser motorcycle.
