SsangYong will showcase an all new compact SUV concept, the SIV-2 at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. The new SUV will be larger than the SIV-1 concept that in turn became the Tivoli and could be the replacement for the Rexton both in India and abroad. The SIV-2 will be offered in a five seater configuration although the production version might have both a five and seven seater configuration.

The concept is said to be powered by a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor to make a series hybrid drivetrain configuration. The new SUV’s electric components will be Lithium Ion batteries and a 48V electric motor setup that will have regenerative braking and a full electric capability.

Although not much else is known about the SIV-2, the new SUV will be based on a chassis setup that can be adapted for a range of powerplants including a diesel engine and a diesel-hybrid powerplant. SsangYong has also hinted that the SIV-2 could be offered with a full electric configuration. The new SIV-2 is speculated to hit production in 2018 and go up against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Nissan X-Trail
